The area is very popular for cycling (on and off road) and for walking.  We are close to the Nantes to Brest canal, on which you can both walk and cycle on the well maintained paths.  There are many more tracks locally for cycling and walking.  The lake of Guerledan is also within easy reach and all watersports can be found there, including water skiing.  There is also a man made beach and safe swimming area, as well as bars and restaurants. 

Tours of the lake are available in bateaux mouche, sightseeing boats.  Again there are woodland walks along the shore line.  Also, just out of Gouarec,  the Abbaye de Bon Repos, which is slowly being restored to its former glory.  This boasts a restaurant and a few interesting shops, including one with crystals and fossils.  There is also an “artisans” market there on Sundays throughout Summer.  A little further in the opposite direction will take you to Carhaix Plougher where there are many shops, bars and restaurants. Also a large swimming pool with a flume, ten pin bowling, billiards and karting.

For the historians, and shoppers just around 40km will take you to Pontivy which has an impressive chateau and some wonderful French alleys with shops to explore.There is a wide variety of places to eat including Chinese/Thai, Italien, Morrocan and Turkish.  It is also where the river Blavet joins to the Nantes to Brest canal and they have recently updated the riverside, which is now wonderful to walk in, or to relax by.

Just over an hour will take you to either the North, or the West coast, and driving on French roads certainly makes a pleasurable experience.
Locally (just over 4 km) is the historic market town of Rostrenen, with a market every Tuesday, local shops and restaurants.  Also they have a large Tourist Information Office We are also well served with the majority of larger well known supermarkets.
